Research at the WRI is focused on issues relating to the challenges of managing wildlife in the face of burgeoning human populations. Most of our work is in California; however, we are also involved in studies in Montana and Mexico.
Ongoing work includes conservation biology, ecological research, and environmental management. WRI staff participates in HCP, MSCP, and other regional conservation planning and raptor monitoring and management.
We have cooperated on California condor releases and are taking the lead on studies to characterize and ultimately minimize the impacts of power lines and wind farms on raptors.
Other research includes a long term study aimed at documenting the impact of human population growth on, and management of, a decreasing, probably resident, golden eagle population.
Anticipated research includes continuing much of the above, expanding the golden eagle studies to address their local and regional movement, and developing a baseline of information on several wildlife species in order that their populations may be properly managed.
